User settings

Updated

Your settings live in User settings: your picture at the right end of the top bar opens them. It's a page of tiles, one for each part of your settings — Preferences, Emails and phones, Name and picture, How we notify you, Password, and Connected apps — each with a line on what it holds, and Sign out beside its title. Each opens a page titled ⚙ User settings › and its name; click User settings there to get back to the tiles.

Your name

In User settings → Name and picture, write the name you go by — "Ana García" — and press Save. People see it beside your picture: in a record's history and comments, in Recent events on an account's page, in a person field, in the people an @ offers, in groups, in the emails we send them, and in the DataWasi apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Your username doesn't change; leave the name empty to go by it again.

Profile picture

Upload a profile picture (PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP, up to 5 MB) from User settings → Name and picture: press Choose a picture…, pick it, and press Upload. It appears at the right end of the top bar, where it opens your User settings, and beside your comments and changes in a record's Activity. Until you add one, we show a colored circle with the first letter of your name. You can replace or remove it any time.

Language & currency

In User settings → Preferences, choose your language — English, Spanish, or Portuguese — and the default currency that new money fields start with. You can still override the currency on any individual field. Each preference applies the moment you change it; there's nothing to save.

The full documentation on datawasi.com opens in that language too, and each of its pages has an address per language — datawasi.com/en/docs, datawasi.com/es/docs, datawasi.com/pt/docs — so you can share it in the one you want.

Appearance

Pick a light or dark theme in Preferences too, or leave it on System to follow your device's setting. Your choice syncs across your devices.

Dates & time zone

Also in Preferences: choose the time zone that timestamps — created, updated, comments, and activity — are shown in. Until you pick one it's Automatic: times follow the device you're on, so they're right wherever you travel. Times are always stored in UTC and only the display shifts, so changing your time zone never alters the underlying data. You can also pick a date format (ISO, Day/Month/Year, or Month/Day/Year, each with its own clock) that applies to every date and timestamp across the app. Calendar dates you type into a date field keep the exact day you entered — only their order changes to match your format.

Where space is short, like a table's Created and Updated columns, a date in the current year leaves out its year; point at it to see the whole date and time.

Opening the app

If you're part of just one account, opening the app takes you straight into it: its page, a tile for each of its tables with how many records it holds (the trash doesn't count), and Add table beside its title if you run the account. Otherwise it opens Accounts, a tile for every account you can enter, with how many of its tables you can see: ones shared with you, or accounts you manage. Pick one to enter it. If you're not part of any account yet, the page says so. From any page, ☰ at the top left lists the last accounts you were in, so you can switch without coming back here — and All accounts at the bottom of that menu brings you back.

Emails & phones

In User settings → Emails and phones, add and confirm email addresses (and phone numbers) for password recovery and notifications. You can keep several of each, with one marked as primary. Any confirmed email also signs you in: type it on the sign-in page in place of your username.

An email confirms from the link we send it. A phone confirms by SMS: next to an unconfirmed number, Confirm by SMS texts it a six-digit code; type it on the page that opens, within 10 minutes. Didn't get it, or did it run out? Send another code from that same page. Type numbers in international format, with their country code: +59899123456.

Below them, turn on Weekly changelog to get what's new in DataWasi by email once a week, at your confirmed email. Turn it off there, or with the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue; every issue is on datawasi.com/changelog too.

Password

Change your password from User settings → Password. Your current session stays active; any other sessions are signed out.

Two-step verification

Turn on Two-step verification, on the same Password page, and signing in asks for a six-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone after your password — so your password alone can't get anyone in. Any authenticator app works: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, or the iPhone's Passwords app. Scan the QR code with it (on the phone itself, tap the link under the code instead), then enter the code it shows and your password.

You then get ten recovery codes, shown just that once: copy or download them and keep them somewhere apart from your phone. If you lose it, each one signs you in once in place of a code, under "Lost your phone?" on the code page. The Password page says how many you have left, and makes new ones in place of the old — that, and turning two-step off, both ask for your password. Lost your phone and your codes too? Write to us: once we know it's you, we turn it off, and your password alone signs you in again.

The DataWasi apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and AI assistants you connect, sign in through this same page, so they ask for the code too. Apps that are already connected stay connected.

Accounts you manage

Tables live in accounts. The ones you manage are on the Accounts page with the rest, each with its own tables and data. Inside one, the ⚙ beside its name in the account menu (☰, at the top left) opens its Settings page — as does the ⚙ at the end of its tile on the Accounts page: a tile each for Account (its name, picture, default currency, and data export), Groups and permissions, and Billing. Each is titled with the account's picture and name, then Settings › and its own name: click the account's name to go back to its page, or Settings to go back to the tiles. Add account, the last tile on the Accounts page, makes another.

User settings → Connected apps is where you manage your connected apps and personal access tokens.
